Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf (earlier known as Yousuf Yohana) sparked major controversy after India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 clash in Dubai. Appearing on live TV, Yousuf launched a personal attack on India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, repeatedly twisting his name into a derogatory slur.

One TV anchor attempted to correct Yousuf, assuming it was a slip of the tongue, but Yousuf persisted with the abuse. Another anchor awkwardly smiled, visibly uncomfortable with the situation. The incident quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism from Indian fans and neutral observers alike.

Yousuf didn’t stop at personal remarks. He went on to accuse Team India of “buying out umpires” and using match referee Andy Pycroft to “torture” Pakistan during the high-voltage contest. “Ye Suar Kumar Yadav… India should be ashamed of the way they try to win,” Mohammad Yousuf said on Samaa TV. “The umpires were clearly favouring them. It was as if they were working under Prime Minister Modi’s instructions.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been equally vocal since the loss. They accused Pycroft, the experienced Zimbabwean referee, of instructing both captains to skip the customary handshake at the toss and of ignoring the ICC Code of Conduct. PCB even demanded his removal from the tournament, but the International Cricket Council reportedly turned down the request.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has been at the centre of attention. Not only did he lead with sharp tactics, but he also top-scored for India and sealed the victory with a six. After walking straight to the dressing room without shaking hands, he dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and to the Indian armed forces, a gesture that earned him massive support at home.
