Yusuf Pathan To Play In The Second Edition Of Lanka Premier League?

The second edition of the Lanka Premier League is scheduled to commence during the July-August window in 2021. After the first edition came out as a big hit, the management is planning to host the 2nd season considering the COVID scare aside. Jaffna Stallions had managed to win teh inaugural season under the leadership of Thisara Perera.

July 30 has been marked as the date for the commencing of LPL’s 2021 edition. The tournament will last till August 22, which will feature the final match between the top 2 teams. Even though Covid-19 cases have been on the rise in Sri Lanka, the management hopes to keep the tournament intact with some extra security and bio bubble precautions.

Talking about the same, SLC Vice President Mr. Ravin Wickremaratne said, “Last year’s success has certainly made a difference with more players from many cricket playing countries looking forward to playing in the LPL, which is a very good sign for the League and Sri Lanka cricket.”

However, this year might feature some exciting players including the former Indian all-rounder, Yusuf Pathan, who has also registered for the tournament. Some of the big names for the tournament also include Shakib Al Hasan.

A total of players from 11 countries have made themselves available for the T20 league. Usman Khawaja, James Faulkner, Ben Cutting, Nicolas Pooran, Sheldon Cottrell, Tabraiz Shamsi, Morne Morkel, etc are some of the prominent cricketers who will be taking part in the event.

A total of 5 teams featured in the first season of the Lanka Premier League. Danushka Gunathilaka was the highest run-getter of the tournament, amassing as many as 476 runs under his name. Wanindu Hasaranga had the perfect tournament with the ball as he bagged 17 wickets and ended the league as the highest wicket-taker. It would be exciting to see how the 2nd edition of LPL goes.
