During the fifth ODI of India’s tour of Pakistan in 2006, erstwhile finishers of the Indian cricket team, Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, thrashed the Pakistan bowlers. It was the story of the whole series which India won 4-1. Rahul Dravid, the then India captain, had won the toss and chose to bowl.
On the back of half-centuries from Mohammad Yousuf (67) and Younis Khan (74*), Pakistan posted a healthy score of 286-8 in 50 overs. With bowling figures of 10-1-58-4, S Sreesanth was the pick of the Indian bowlers.
India started their innings on a positive note. Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid stitched a 69-run partnership before Gambhir was out caught behind by Kamran Akmal off Rao Iftikhar Anjum on 38. Having scored his 68th ODI half-century, Dravid (50) further stitched a 72-run partnership with Singh.
When Dhoni came in to bat at No. 4, India required 146 runs in 118 balls. The duo remained unbeaten till the end as India achieved the target with 19 balls to spare. Singh ended up scoring 107* (93) with the help of 14 fours. Dhoni scored 77* (56) with the help of six fours and four sixes.
Yuvraj Singh was declared the Man of the Match. Having scored 344 runs in five matches at an average of 172 and a strike rate of 97.17, he was also adjourned the Man of the Series.
