19th September 2007 is one of teh most memorable days for the fans of Indian cricket and especially, Yuvraj Singh as he owned Durban’s Kingsmead Stadium during the match against England in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. Yuvraj Singh had smashed 36 runs in an over and it happened for the first time in T20 cricket. A bit of an Andrew Flintoff spur is all it would take for that record to be equaled, as Yuvraj Singh pummeled England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes to ink his name permanently in the record books.

The Durban destruction took place 14 years ago and Yuvraj Singh has recently decided to relieve those sequence of events from the fateful day in a video posted on his official YouTube. He had smashed 50 in just 12 balls, which is still a record, and with India targeting a 200+ score, his murderous 16-ball 58 powered the team to 218/4 before Irfan Pathan’s 3/37 helped India restrict England 18 runs short.

Yuvraj Singh had revealed that Flintoff riled him up right before the penultimate over, and that tempted him to play such a knock. In the re-enacted video, Yuvraj reveals the in-between-balls conversation with MS Dhoni, the non-striker, had conceded five sixes once (at The Oval against England only a couple of weeks ago).

However, as fate would have it, Yuvraj Singh managed to dispatch England’s lead bowler for six in a row, a feat that has been achieved only once in T20Is after Yuvraj’s heroics, as Kieron Pollard slammed Akila Dananjaya six sixes during a home T20I series earlier this year.

Before Yuvraj and Pollard, South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs had made the record of smashing 6 sixes when he belted Netherlands’ Daan van Bunge for 36 runs during the 2007 ICC ODI World Cup, to become the first international cricketer to do so. These three aside, recently USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra emulated the record during his team’s clash against Papua New Guinea.
