The young opener, Devdutt Padikkal has emerged as the highest run-scorer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Padikkal made his debut in the ongoing season and scored a classy fifty before scoring two more fifties in the next three games. He has so far scored three half-centuries in RCB’s first four games of the season.

Padikkal was once again played a mat-winning knock as along with skipper Virat Kohli to secure an easy win for RCB in their 4th game of the season on Saturday. RCB defeated Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 8 wickets after successfully chasing down 155 runs with 5 balls to spare. Padikkal and Kohli slammed half-centuries apiece to make light work of the chase.

While Kohli played a comeback knock of unbeaten 72 off 53 balls laced with a couple of sixes and 7 fours, Padikkal scored 63 off 45 balls with the help of 6 fours and a solitary six. Post RCB’s win, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter to praise Kohli for his incredible consistency and said he has never seen the RCB captain out of form in the better part of the last decade. 

Yuvraj also reserved special praise of Padikkal and invited him to bat with him to see who can hit the ball longer in a six-hitting contest. He had tweeted: “Form is temporary class is forever! @imVkohli however I haven’t seen this boy out of form for the last 8 years which is unbelievable actually! Paddikal looks really good need to bat together and see who hits longer”.

Responding to the former all-rounder’s tweet, a humble Padikkal said, “Not competing with you paji. Learnt the flick from you. Always wanted to bat with you. Let’s go”.

Padikkal has been a consistent performer with the bat for Karnataka as he had amassed 174 runs in 4 innings at an impressive average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 134.88. Good starts from him have helped RCB to win three games in the first four matches.
