Yuvraj Singh Feels India Should Defeat New Zealand In WTC Final

Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh reckons that India will be able to registered a win over New Zealand in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final as Virat Kohli and his men hav been performing brilliantly on the overseas tours. India topped the WTC standings with 72.2 PCT after collecting 520 points to reach the finals while New Zealand were standing at the second place with 70 PCT with 420, pipping England, who collected more points (442) but had a lower PCT (61.4).

During a recent chat on eSalaamCricket, Yuvraj Singh said, “I think it’s a very good idea to take Test cricket to the next level, I feel India is very strong because India has performed brilliantly on overseas tours, won twice in Australia. I think India have the belief that they can win anywhere, but the conditions in England are different, I am sure India should beat New Zealand.”

The one-off match at the Rose Bowl marks the culmination of a two-year cycle of the World Test Championship, which was launched in 2019 to create test cricket’s own pinnacle event. The governing International Cricket Council (ICC) wanted the championship to bring relevance and context to the longest format of the game and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said it had been a success.

New Zealand prepared for the WTC Final by facing England in a two-match Test series which started on June 2. They won the second Test in Birmingham after drawing the first Test at Lord’s before taking on Virat Kohli’s India in Southampton from June 18.

Yuvi, who retired from the sport in 2019, rated India’s batting higher than their opponent’s but said that it will be difficult for the Indian team to get into the Test mode after not playing the longest format for more than 3 months.
