Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged the team management to be transparent about the futures of senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, stressing that clear communication is essential as India prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Amid growing speculation over the veteran duo’s place in the team’s long-term plans, Yuvraj believes the selectors must strike the right balance between youth and experience.

Rumours surrounding Rohit Sharma’s ODI future gathered momentum earlier this week, with several reports claiming that the third ODI against England at Lord’s could be his final international appearance. The reports also suggested that the selection committee was planning to move forward without the veteran opener for next year’s ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed those claims, insisting that no such decision had been made.

Speaking to Star Sports, Yuvraj Singh said the management, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, should clearly communicate its plans to Rohit and Kohli rather than allowing uncertainty to persist.

“It is up to the management who they want to stick with. Ideally, you need experience in the team. You cannot just go with young guys, or you just cannot go with only experience in the team,” Yuvraj said.

The 2011 World Cup hero added that if the management wants the senior duo to be part of India’s World Cup campaign, they should reassure them immediately. On the other hand, if they are no longer in the plans, the decision should be conveyed honestly, even if it is difficult.

“Whatever your plans are, if you want these guys to go for the World Cup, you tell them now and you secure them now,” Yuvraj Singh said.

He further emphasized that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made immense contributions to Indian cricket over the years and deserve honesty and respect, regardless of the selectors’ final decision. According to Yuvraj, open communication will ultimately earn the players’ appreciation and help Indian cricket move forward with clarity.
