Former India all-rounder and two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, a week after naming former India captain Sourav Ganguly as their head coach. The development follows an earlier PTI report in June indicating that both former India stars would join the Delhi Capitals coaching staff.

Yuvraj, who represented India in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is, will take up his first coaching assignment in the IPL. Renowned for his match-winning performances and experience in high-pressure situations, the former all-rounder is expected to strengthen Delhi Capitals’ batting unit and contribute to the development of their young players.
Speaking about his appointment, Yuvraj expressed excitement about beginning a new chapter in his cricketing career. “I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me,” Yuvraj Singh said in a statement released by the franchise.

Yuvraj’s appointment marks his return to the Delhi-based franchise, which was previously known as Delhi Daredevils. In 2015, Delhi acquired his services for a record โน16 crore at the IPL auction, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history at that time. He featured in all 14 matches for the franchise during that season.
The former India star also spoke about working alongside Ganguly, popularly known as Dada, as they prepare to help Delhi Capitals challenge for their maiden IPL title.ย “I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad,” Yuvraj Singh added.

Over the years, Yuvraj Singh has mentored several promising Indian cricketers, including current India captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has also sought his guidance during a difficult phase in his career. Interestingly, Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals following a high-profile player trade with Lucknow Super Giants. As part of the deal, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav moved in the opposite direction.
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Yuvraj, highlighting his experience, winning mentality and ability to mentor young players. Jindal also expressed confidence that Yuvraj’s return would strengthen the coaching setup alongside Ganguly and the rest of the support staff.

Delhi Capitals are still chasing their first IPL championship. Their only final appearance came in 2020, and the franchise missed the playoffs in the previous two seasons. Jointly owned by the GMR Group and JSW Group, the franchise operates under a biennial management arrangement between the two ownership groups. GMR’s management tenure concluded in 2026.ย With Yuvraj joining Ganguly, Delhi Capitals will hope their revamped coaching setup can help the team build a stronger campaign in IPL 2027.
