Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj’s brilliance in the field continues to shine, as he bagged his second “Best Fielder” medal after India’s dominant win over the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024. His contribution extended beyond the wickets column, with a couple of crucial catches and a run-out that helped restrict the USA to a modest 110 for 8 wickets.

Siraj’s highlight-reel catch came in the 15th over, leaping high at the boundary to dismiss Nitish Kumar for 27. This spectacular grab practically sealed his “Best Fielder” award. He was nominated alongside teammates Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav but emerged victorious. Legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh presented the medal to Siraj, acknowledging all the match’s standout performers.

In a video uploaded by the BCCI, Yuvraj Singh praised Siraj’s efforts: “Arshdeep congratulations for the Player of the Match and your batting skills last game also. SKY well played, very unlike Suryakumar but according to the situation. Shivam well done, very good to see you getting runs and finishing the match for India. Well done, all the best guys. I’m pretty sure you, no pressure, enjoy. Of course, Best fielder of the game, Siraj game changer, great catch.”

Mohammed Siraj, visibly delighted, shared his thoughts on receiving the award: “It’s an amazing feeling. Last World Cup I was the contender across 11 matches but couldn’t win the medal. But hard work never goes to waste and always pays off.”

While his bowling figures on the day were an economical 0 for 25 in 4 overs, Siraj’s overall performance in the tournament has been impressive. He previously claimed figures of 0/19 and 1/13 in matches against Pakistan and Ireland, respectively.

India’s victory over the USA secured their passage to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. Despite early dismissals for Rohit Sharma (3), Virat Kohli (0), and Rishabh Pant (18), an unbeaten 67-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav (50*) and Shivam Dube (31*) steered India to victory in 18.2 overs.
