Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has expressed disappointment over the absence of Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from India’s ODI setup. He believes the three young batters have enough ability to make an impact in the 50-over format and deserve more opportunities to showcase their talent at the international level.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch event of Protocol 32, Yuvraj highlighted the need to give promising players a fair chance in ODI cricket. The former India cricketer has closely mentored Abhishek and followed his development over the years. He feels that keeping players of their calibre away from the 50-over setup does not do justice to their potential.
“I would love to see him (Abhishek) in the ODIs, to be honest, and I have said this before that if we are not picking guys like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 50-over cricket, then somewhere down the line we are not doing justice to their talent,” Yuvraj Singh was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

Ishan Kishan last featured in an ODI for India on July 19, 2026, against England. Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, meanwhile, have been part of India’s recent T20I squad for the New Zealand tour. However, neither batter has received an ODI call-up so far.

India’s strong batting depth made competition for places particularly challenging. With several established players already occupying key positions, youngsters often have to wait for opportunities through squad rotation or consistent performances in domestic cricket.
Yuvraj Singh acknowledged the difficulty of breaking into the Indian team but maintained that talented youngsters should not be overlooked. He also praised Abhishek’s dedication, noting that the left-handed opener’s progress has come from his own hard work and commitment to improving his game.
