Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has recently recalled an incident from the T20 World Cup final in 2014. While he has played many memorable knocks throughout his career for India, he wasn’t at his best during the mega event. He had a rather forgettable World Cup final when he failed to perform for India. He came under the scanner for his innings of 11 from 21 balls as well.

Recently during an interview with News18’s new show Home of Heroes Yuvraj Singh shared his innings. He said, “During the T20 World Cup in 2014, I was very low on confidence. There was an atmosphere where I could get dropped. It’s not an excuse but I wasn’t getting enough support from the team. From the time of Gary, I was in Duncan’s era and things had completely changed in the team.”

He continued, “When the final came, I just couldn’t hit the ball. I tried to hit the off-spinner and I couldn’t hit it and it went for dots. I tried to get out, I didn’t get out….Everybody thought my career was over after that. I also thought my career was over. But that’s life. You have to accept that. If you accept glories, you must accept your defeats as well and you must move forward.”

However, Yuvraj Singh is one of the finest players that India has ever produced. His performance in the 2011 World Cup is one of the most memorable ones as he helped India lift the World Cup trophy after a long wait of 28 years at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. He won the award of the player of the series for his outstanding performances with both bat and ball. He had smashed 315 runs and scalped 15 wickets during the tournament as well.

Yuvraj Singh also said how a player’s performance improves when they have the backing of the captain and coach as well. “Look at Mahi (MS Dhoni) towards the end of his career. He had so much support from Virat and Ravi Shastri. They took him to the World Cup, he played till the end, and went on to play 350 games. I think support is very important but in Indian cricket everybody will not get support,” Yuvraj added.
