Yuvraj Singh Reveals Why Cricket Shouldn’t Resume Now

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has affected the world severely bringing it down standstill. Many countries are completely lockdown for safety and contain the spread of the virus. Major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with all international and domestic matches canceled. Former India allrounder and World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh expresses his thoughts on the resumption of Cricket.

The star players wants cricket to resume only after the world has been freed from the effect of the Covid-19 virus. Mentioning health and safety as the paramount, Yuvraj doesn’t want the players to be compromised.  Speaking with The Doosra’ podcast on BBC, Yuvraj said, “My personal opinion is that first, we need to defend our countries, the world from coronavirus.”

“It needs to be completely eradicated or come down 90-95 percent because if it keeps on increasing the players will be afraid to come out to the path, go to the field, go to the dressing rooms or changing rooms,” the former all-rounder added.

The man of the tournament in of 2011 World Cup feels a player will keep thinking about the virus that will draw his attention away. Every player already under intense pressure while on the field and not thinking about the virus will help focus on the game.

“Already as a player, when you are representing your country, club, you are under a lot of pressure. You don’t want the fear of coronavirus around you while playing. Like when you are putting on your gloves, you are sweating. You are batting and want to eat a banana but some other guy is holding the banana. Then ‘I think I don’t want to eat that banana’,” Yuvraj said.

“Don’t want those questions in your head while playing. We need to concentrate on the ball etc. That’s my opinion. The world can feel free to discuss on that,” he added.
