The occasion also brought attention to the government’s sports initiatives. The Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, officially described as the National Sports Policy 2025, places emphasis on developing India’s sporting ecosystem from the grassroots level to international competition. The policy identifies talent development, sporting infrastructure, wider participation and preparation for major global events, including the 2036 Olympics, among its objectives.

The Khelo India Scheme has been another major part of India’s sports-development framework. Its initiatives include the Khelo India Youth Games, University Games and Winter Games, along with sports infrastructure, training centres and talent-development programmes.

The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) provides support for elite athletes, while Khelo India’s talent-identification initiatives are designed to identify promising athletes at the grassroots level and help them progress through the sporting system.
