Shubman Gill showcased his class with a spectacular century, scoring 104 off 147 deliveries against England in the second innings of the second Test. The young opener, who had faced scrutiny for a prolonged lean patch, silenced critics with an innings that included 11 fours and two sixes. Gill’s century played a pivotal role in India setting a challenging target of 399 for England.
Before this innings, Gill had been under intense scrutiny, having failed to register a fifty-plus score in his last 13 innings. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri had warned Gill about the competition for his spot, especially with Cheteshwar Pujara in sublime form during the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
