Abhishek Sharma produced a sensational batting display in the third T20I against New Zealand, smashing a breathtaking century to help India seal the five-match series in emphatic fashion. The left-handed opener dismantled the Kiwi bowling attack during the chase of 199 runs, but his mentor Yuvraj Singh had a humorous response to the remarkable innings.

India had already taken a 2-0 lead in the series after chasing down 226 runs in the opening match and winning a closely contested second encounter, where Tilak Varma played a crucial role. The Men in Blue carried that momentum into the third T20I at Henry Stadium in Wellington, securing a six-wicket victory to clinch the series.
Abhishek reached his half-century in just 15 deliveries, prompting Yuvraj Singh to remind him that his own record of a 12-ball fifty remained untouched. The former India all-rounder achieved the feat against England during the 2007 T20 World Cup, when he smashed six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Yuvraj jokingly wrote, “You still can’t get 50 of 12 can you Abhishek Sharma! Looks like two left-handers batting in their backyard!”

Yuvraj’s unforgettable innings came after tensions reportedly flared with England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. The frustration carried into the 18th over, when Yuvraj struck Broad for six consecutive sixes, scoring 36 runs in the over. He finished with 58 off just 16 deliveries, creating one of the most iconic moments in T20 cricket.

However, Yuvraj Singh also acknowledged Abhishek’s extraordinary achievement and admitted that the youngster had reached a milestone he himself could not replicate. “And I can’t make 100 of 30 or 34 balls. Well played sir Abhishek! Great innings aur apne single bhi le liye,” he added.

Yuvraj also praised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s contribution, Sanju Samson’s team-first approach at No. 3 and India’s bowling unit for restricting New Zealand to below 200.
Abhishek smashed 113 runs off just 38 deliveries, reaching his century in 35 balls. His explosive knock included nine fours and 11 sixes, putting India firmly in control alongside Sooryavanshi during the powerplay.

The opening pair added 133 runs for the first wicket, with Sooryavanshi contributing 45 off 19 balls, including six fours and six sixes. India raced to 100 runs in just five overs and completed the chase with 40 balls remaining. Abhishek’s century was his fourth in T20Is against Full Member nations, equalling Suryakumar Yadav’s tally. He also moved to 11 T20 centuries overall, surpassing Virat Kohli’s tally of 10 and moving within one of Rohit Sharma’s five T20I hundreds.
