Former England Test captain Ben Stokes endured another difficult outing against an Indian spinner after being clean bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal during the County Championship clash between Durham and Northamptonshire. The dismissal came on the third delivery of the 47th over, when Chahal bowled outside the off-stump.

Stokes opted to defend rather than attack the delivery, but a significant gap between his bat and pad left him vulnerable. The ball turned sharply after pitching and went through Stokes’ defence before crashing into the top of off-stump. The England all-rounder was dismissed for 14, leaving Durham struggling at 187/6.

Durham could not recover from the setback and were eventually bowled out for 205. Mayank Agarwal provided some resistance with 36 off 57 balls, finishing as the second-highest scorer for the side. Chahal was the standout bowler, claiming an impressive 4/36 from 15.2 overs. His performance once again highlighted the threat Indian spinners can pose to Stokes in county cricket.

This was not the first occasion that Stokes has been dismissed by an Indian spinner after being beaten by turn. In another County Championship encounter involving Durham and Gloucestershire, Stokes appeared settled at the crease before Sai Kishore ended his promising innings.

Stokes scored 45 from 43 deliveries in that game, smashing seven fours and a six. His dismissal left him visibly frustrated as he looked towards the heavens before tossing his bat in disbelief on his way back to the pavilion.

Meanwhile, Auqib Nabi made an encouraging start to his county stint with Surrey. The pacer claimed his first wicket for the county against Yorkshire after Kuldeep Yadav chased a delivery outside off-stump and edged it behind. Nabi delivered a disciplined spell in the first innings, bowling 15 overs for just 33 runs while also picking up the important wicket of Kuldeep.
