The Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal managed to scalp a huge wicket of Avishka Fernando on the first delivery of his spell during teh ongoing first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. This will definitely be a huge confidence booster for the wrist spinner who had been going through a rough patch for a couple of months now.
In the match that just started a couple of hours ago, Sri Lanka won the toss and deciding to bat first with slim chances of any dew in the game. The Sri Lankan openers, Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka started off well and Fernando, especially, was looking to be in good form.

Fernando played a decent knock of 35-ball 32 and that too in the first 9 overs of the match. But his innings were short-lived. Just when Avishka Fernando was turning out to be lethal for the Indian bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal managed to pick a wicket and dismissed the in-form batsman on his very first delivery of the day.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s poor form had started from the England series earlier this year. he also failed to deliver in teh first phase of IPL 2021 and he was outperformed by some of the younger spinners in the competition. This, however, seems to be changing in the Sri Lanka tour. Getting a wicket on the very first delivery is a big statement and it will definitely add to the spinner’s confidence for the ongoing series.

India’s playing XI has seen a number of interesting additions for the first game as they had included Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan and the latter’s inclusion was debated as he was preferred over Sanju Samson. However, some reports suggested that Samson had suffered a niggle ahead of the game which helped Ishan Kishan to make his ODI debut.
