India’s impressive run in ICC tournaments came to a halt when South Africa handed them a comprehensive 76-run defeat in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad. The loss not only ended India’s strong winning streak in T20 World Cups but also marked their first defeat in 18 ICC white-ball matches since the 2023 World Cup final loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

One of the key architects of South Africa’s victory was veteran batter David Miller, who delivered a powerful innings of 63 off just 35 balls. His knock helped South Africa post a competitive total and ultimately put India under immense pressure during the chase.
Former India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal praised Miller’s batting evolution and his ability to dominate bowlers with calculated power. Chahal highlighted how Miller’s approach against spin has changed significantly in recent years.

“I think Miller would have had that sense of disappointment that he was there almost till the end and could not finish the job for his side in the final. But I would like to point out one thing about Miller,” Yuzvendra Chahal said while speaking on JioHotstar’s Haier Match Centre Live.

“When I used to bowl to him, whenever spinners came on, he would go for sweeps and reverse sweeps. However, since 2022, when Ahmedabad became his home ground in the IPL, he mostly stands still and hits through the line.”
Yuzvendra Chahal further explained how Miller’s strength lies in trusting his natural power rather than experimenting with risky strokes.
“His power is such that he waits, and his range, from midwicket to long-on, is incredible. He backs his strengths and does not try anything extraordinary. Sometimes he even hits sixes over cover off fast bowlers. Over the last three or four years, his game has evolved. Whether it is a fast bowler or a spinner, he can clear the ropes with that same swing,” Yuzvendra Chahal added.

Meanwhile, Miller acknowledged India’s strength but insisted that even the best teams can be beaten with disciplined execution.
“That they are beatable. India come with, as I mentioned, an incredible team,” David Miller said after the match. “But for us in a tournament like this, it’s about keeping things simple, staying in our lane as players, and getting the job done under pressure.”
