Yuzvendra Chahal, on Monday (April 22), created history by becoming the first-ever bowler to take 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The leg-spinner achieved the incredible feat during the game between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The India star needed just one wicket to enter the 200-wicket club and he did not have to wait for long. He struck in his very first over to pick up his 200th IPL wicket. On the third ball of the eighth over, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed a well-set Mohammad Nabi to put the Royals in the driver’s seat.

It was a flighted delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal and Nabi ended up edging it back to the bowler. The Royals spin spearhead made no mistake in taking the catch and celebrated the milestone wicket in style. He raised both his hands in the air while sitting on his knees before being mobbed by his teammates.

Yuzvendra Chahal began his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians way back in 2011. He stayed with Mumbai Indians for three seasons but managed to play just one game. In 2014, he was signed up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and he did not look back after that.

He went on to become one of the best spinners in the IPL and also became a key member of India’s limited-overs teams. He plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2014 to 2021 and is still their leading wicket-taker. In 113 games for the Bengaluru-based outfit, Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 139 wickets. No other bowler has even managed to reach 100 wickets for the franchise so far.

In 2022, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals and has been a key member of the team since then. In less than three seasons, he has become Rajasthan Royals’ third-highest wicket-taker in the IPL. He has picked up 61 wickets for the Royals so far, just six behind leader Shane Watson. Chahal will be looking to break Watson’s record in the ongoing season itself.
