On April 30, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) unveiled the Indian squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies from June 2 onwards. Among the array of stars named in India’s roster, one standout inclusion was leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

The 33-year-old’s selection was a testament to his outstanding performances in the IPL 2024, where he showcased remarkable skills with the ball. Expressing his delight at being chosen for the prestigious tournament, Chahal described it as his “biggest achievement” to date, emphasizing the significance of representing India on the global stage.

“For the World Cup, we play IPL, domestic cricket to get into the Indian team and that is my biggest achievement,” remarked Yuzvendra Chahal in an interview with IndiaToday, underscoring the relentless pursuit of excellence that drives every cricketer’s journey to donning the national colors.

Chahal’s journey to the T20 World Cup squad saw him last featuring in a T20I for India during their tour of the West Indies and the USA in July 2023. Despite delivering commendable performances during the tour, which included five wickets in as many matches in the West Indies, Chahal found himself out of the national side’s reckoning thereafter, facing a period of exclusion during the T20I series against Afghanistan earlier in the year.

Reflecting on his perseverance and resilience during challenging times, Yuzvendra Chahal reiterated, “I think I played there (West Indies) last July, but when I was out of the Indian team. I played domestic T20s and cricket keeps going on.”

Yuzvendra Chahal’s recent feat of becoming the first bowler to claim 200 wickets in the IPL further underscored his prowess as a premier spinner. With an impressive tally of 13 wickets in nine IPL 2024 encounters, Chahal emerged as one of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers, solidifying his credentials for a spot in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.
