India’s leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal has said that former skipper, Virat Kohli has made meaningful contributions with the bat in recent times and the problem arises when the focus is just on him not able to score centuries. Kohli has been going through a rough patch in international cricket, with him scoring his last century 1000 days ago. This has brought the star batter under the scanner for his performances.
However, Yuzvendra Chahal reckons that the former Indian skipper has made good contributions with the bat during his lean patch. The legspinner, during a recent chat on Sports Yaari, as quoted by NDTV.com, said that the problem at the moment is that the focus is solely on Kohli’s inability to score a century in recent times and people tend to forget the valuable knocks he has made during this time frame.

Yuzvendra Chahal elaborated, “If there is someone who has 50+ average in T20Is, he has been the Man Of The Tournament in two T20 World Cups, he has 70 hundreds across all formats. You just see his average across all formats, the problem is we just think about his 100s, we don’t talk about those valuable contributions of 60-70 because of the standards he has set.”
The Indian leg-spinner further went on to claim that no bowler likes to bowl to Kohli when the star batter has scored 15-20 runs while being at the crease during a match. The 32-year-old also opened up about playing under Kohli and Rohit Sharma and claimed that his role has been the same all the time.

Explaining the same, Yuzvendra Chahal said, “My role has always been the same under different captains, they always use me as a wicket-taking bowler. For me, they are all same. I have gotten the liberty as a bowler. They always prefer on what I want to do. Sometimes Rohit bhaiya asks me this is the situation, what will you do? As a bowler, you know, you cannot be relaxed in any over.”
