Yuzvendra Chahal may be best known for his leg-spin wizardry, but the Indian cricketer recently grabbed attention for a completely different reason. The veteran spinner showcased his batting skills by taking on a unique challenge set by former England captain Kevin Pietersen, producing a stunning display of power-hitting that left fans impressed.

The challenge was simple but demanding. Chahal had to score 100 runs from 50 deliveries, with the speed of the ball increasing by 1 mph after every delivery, starting at 51 mph. To make the contest more entertaining, Pietersen shortened the boundary dimensions to just 40 metres, giving Chahal a realistic chance to clear the ropes consistently.

The Indian spinner wasted no time making his intentions clear. He launched the very first ball for a six and followed it up with another maximum on the next delivery. Chahal continued his aggressive approach throughout the challenge, regularly stepping out of his crease and targeting the straight boundary. A couple of dropped catches worked in his favour, allowing him to keep the scoreboard moving rapidly.

By the end of the first ten balls, Chahal had already raced to 33 runs. He reached his half-century in just 14 deliveries, earning a warm embrace from Pietersen as the challenge gathered momentum. Despite losing points after being caught on a few occasions, Chahal refused to slow down and continued attacking every ball.

His remarkable hitting display saw him surge to 90 runs in just 25 deliveries. The defining moment arrived on the 29th ball when he smashed another six to bring up his century, completing the challenge with an incredible 21 balls remaining. In the process, Chahal surpassed a previous benchmark set by South African legend AB de Villiers and finished with an astonishing 17 sixes.

While the batting challenge provided a memorable highlight, Chahal’s most recent IPL campaign was far less successful. Retained by Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore ahead of IPL 2026, the experienced spinner struggled to make a significant impact. He finished the season with 12 wickets from 12 matches, averaging 32.08 with an economy rate of 9.39.

Punjab Kings also narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, finishing fifth. With Chahal having been away from the Indian team since 2023, attention now shifts to his future. The leg-spinner is expected to feature in domestic and county cricket, while Punjab Kings will have an important decision to make regarding his place in their plans for the 2027 IPL season.
