During the famous second Test of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2001 at Kandy, where India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets, Zaheer Khan got the better of Sanath Jayasuriya.
Having lost the last Test at Galle by 10 wickets, Sourav Ganguly, the then Indian captain, had won the toss and chose to field. Sri Lanka ended up scoring 274-10 in 78.3 overs. With bowling figures of 22-6-62-3, Zaheer was the pick of the Indian bowlers.
In a bid to restrict the hosts to as much low as possible, Zaheer earned the priced scalp of Jayasuriya (6) in the fifth over of the second innings. He ended the second innings with figures of 23-4-76-4.
