On Wednesday, the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that India will now be hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in January 2020. Earlier, the men in blue were scheduled to lock horns with Zimbabwe during this period but following their ban by ICC, the BCCI has decided to invite Sri Lanka to participate in the three-match series.

The Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will host the T20I series opener on January 5, 2020. The second T20I will take place in Indore on January 7, while the third and final match will be played in Pune on January 10. The Islanders last toured India for a bilateral T20I series in 2017-18. India had clean-swept that series by a 3-0 margin.

India holds a 9-2 upper hand over Sri Lanka in the bilateral T20I matches. The series will also mark India’s first T20I series at home in 2020.

The short series will also commence the limited-over leg for Team India in 2020, which expected to be quite busy for them. Following this series, they will be hosting Australia for three one-day internationals (ODIs), with the first in Mumbai on 14 January. They will then travel to New Zealand for a full series, starting with five T20Is as well.

Currently, Team India is locking horns with South Afric as the three-match T20I series resulted in a 1-1 draw as the first match in Dharamsala got washed out due to rain. Following this, India will host South Africa in a three-match Test series. The series opener will be played in Visakhapatnam with the final two matches expected to be taking place in Pune and Ranchi respectively.
