According to the latest reports of Sportstar, as many as 8 Indian cricketers tested positive of Covod-19 including Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Currently, the Indian players are in Ahmedabad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Kieron Pollard-led West Indies team.
On Monday, the Indian players reached Ahmedabad and they were tested upon arrival. The reports from Sportstar suggest that the BCCI medical team is currently monitoring the situation and the BCCI will soon be announcing the replacements. It is understood that the trio’s results arrived on Wednesday evening after all the Indian players went through RT-PCR tests before joining the bubble.

While all the other Indian players were tested negative in the first round of RT-PCR tests taken upon arrival, 8 cricketers have tested positive in the second test taken on Wednesday. Though the players and the support staff are yet to come in contact with each other, the rest of the squad has been advised isolation and will undergo another round of RT-PCR tests Thursday morning.
In a press release regarding the same, BCCI said, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI squad after seven members, including three players of Team India (Senior Men) tested positive for COVID-19 following three rounds of RT-PCR testing. The members were asked to report in Ahmedabad on 31st January 2022 for the upcoming Paytm three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies.”
The release further added, “Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative. Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and fast bowler Navdeep Saini’s (standby player) RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results. Fielding Coach T.”

The release concluded, “Dilip and Security Liaison Officer B. Lokesh’s RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results. Batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad’s RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday (February 1st) has returned a positive result. He had tested negative during the first round of testing on Monday. Batsman Shreyas Iyer and Sports Massage Therapist Rajeev Kumar’s RT-PCR tests conducted on Wednesday (February 2nd) have returned positive results. Both had tested negative in the first two rounds of testing.”
