Former England captain and middle-order batsman Kevin Pietersen expressed his concern for the England test cricket team. The former skipper feels England does not have a good pool of fast bowlers who can replace the current Test bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad once they hang up their boots.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen shared his concern on  England’s Test bowling resources. Pietersen questioned England’s resources to replace the pace attacking duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Anderson and Broad are on the wrong time of their 30’s and could soon draw the curtains down on their careers.

Pietersen said, “I am worried about England’s Test team when Broad and Anderson go. They are on their last legs at the moment.”

He added, “If Broad and Anderson go, there’s going to be a big, big gap to fill. Do they have the bowlers? Mark Wood is very good, however, he’s full of injuries. And Jofra Archer, he’s also had that elbow injury during that South African series, so he hardly played. So it will be about how quickly England can fill that gap. Because if you can’t take 20 wickets in the Test match you really are behind the eight ball.”

At 37, Anderson is nearing the fag end of his career. The fast bowler has been amongst the best prolific pacers of the game fast bowler with 584 wickets to his name. Hse hasn’t featured for the team since January as he suffered from a rib injury in South Africa earlier this year.

Broad, is Englands’ second-highest wicket-taker with  485 dismissals. He is four years younger to Anderson but feels he won’t be playing as long as his bowling partner.

Pietersen also spoke about Joe Root’s captaincy. He feels the team now is more confident about the leadership of the team. Pietersen also admitted that he had reservations about the same before the 3-1 Test series win in South Africa.

“I think that he came away from that tour a much better leader. A  much better captain, and with a lot more respect from a lot of people. Earlier, people had reservations about him leading into that test tour in South Africa,” he said.
