Mohammed Shami Organized Distribution Centres For Migrants

Moved by the plight of migrant workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Shami has decided to distribute food packets and masks to people traveling back to their homes. The 29-year-old pace has also set up food distribution centres for the poor migrants near his house in Sahaspur, Uttar Pradesh.

The BCCI posted a video of Shami, who is seen wearing a mask and gloves, handing out food packets and masks to people traveling in buses and those at the food distribution centers.

Tweeting about the same, BCCI wrote: “As #IndiaFightsCorona, @MdShami11 comes forward to help people trying to reach home by distributing food packets & masks on National Highway No. 24 in Uttar Pradesh. He has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur.”

 

The coronavirus enforced lockdown has triggered a migrant movement crisis in the country with lakhs of people trying to get back home battling extreme heat and hunger. However, people like Shami have managed to come forward and help these needy people in crisis situations across the nation.  

Currently, India is going through a nationwide lockdown. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive patients in India went past 199000 with almost 5700 people losing their lives on Friday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Almost the entire is in a lockdown due to the scare of the ever-escalating situation concerning the World Health Organisation-recognized pandemic that is the Coronavirus. Everything- schools, colleges, airports, railway stations, gyms, sporting events, movies, offices- have been put under lockdown as the world continues to self-isolate in order to control the pandemic. BCCI has also postponed the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for an indefinite period to the pandemic.
