Virat Kohli has been leading the Indian team across the formats since the start of 2017. Since he took the captaincy reins, India has done exceedingly well in all the formats of the game. However, whenever Kohli has taken a series off, Rohit Sharma has stepped in his shoes and led the team. On Friday, former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More expressed his opinion on the matter.

The fact that Sharma has won four IPL trophies while leading the Mumbai Indians (MI), the pressure has always been on Kohli when it comes to his captaincy position of the national side. Some experts have suggested split captaincy for the Indian team.

During an interview with Sportskeeda, the former chief selector pointed out that Kohli leads the team throughout the year putting pressure on himself. Currently, Virat leads the Indian team in all formats and also leads Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. More suggested that split captaincy will be great for Kohli as it will release some pressure from him.

More suggested, “I think some thought should be put into this. Kohli is captaining RCB and Indian team across formats. You need to handle pressure and all that. Rohit is doing a great job, it will be good for Virat.”

In late 2017, Sharma got the opportunity to lead the Indian ODI team for the first time when Virat was rested for a series. Under Rohit’s leadership, India managed to beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in ODIs and 3-0 in T20Is. Under his captaincy, India also won the Asia Cup in 2018 in Kohli’s absence. In overall 10 ODIs in which Rohit has led Team India, the men in blue have won eight of them. While in T20Is, he has captained in 19 matches, and India has won 15 of them. India also won a historic Nidahas T20 trophy under Sharma’s captaincy.

Talking about Kohli, More revealed, “Virat has been a superstar, I told he will captain the Indian team and beat Tendulkar’s record back in 2008 when he captained India U19. He wants to win matches all the time, he’s fantastic.”
