Former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar has come hard on the Indian Test deputy skipper, Ajinkya Rahane after the Indian vice-captain’s call led to the unfortunate run-out of the captain, Virat Kohli during the crucial stages on Day 1 of the Adelaide Test. The cricketer-turned commentator and analyst said he was amazed that Virat kept his composure despite the fault of his partner.

Virat Kohli, who looked set for what could have been his first century of the year 2020, got run-out on while batting at 74 due to a terrible mix-up between him and Rahane. The latter punched the ball towards short mid-off and called for a run before stopping a quick. Kohli trusted the call of his deputy and came almost midway through the pitch when Rahane retracted. Josh Hazlewood collected the ball, threw it back to Lyon, who took off the bails.

Rahane realized his mistake and apologized to the skipper, surprisingly, remained quiet, and walked off dejected. The unfortunate run-out of captain Kohli in the last hour of the third session triggered a late batting collapse of India and the visitors squandered all the advantage that they had gained earlier in the day.

During about the same during a show in Sony Six, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “I was amazed that Virat Kohli kept his composure. Completely the fault of his partner, there is nothing to suggest that Kohli shouldn’t have backed up that much.”

He further added, “There was no run there, the fielder was too close. Kohli did the right thing, he had no business to look back. A little bit of disgust was shown but those are the painful moments that compensate for all the other perks you get from the game.”
