Royal Challengers Bangalore had a day to forget on the field against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. This was not it for RCB as their skipper suffered a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate for the game. Virat Kohli is handed Rs 12 lakh as a fine for a slow overrate offence. This is the fourth instance in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2021.
An official statement was released regarding the fine by the officials of the IPL 2021. This was Kohli’s first such offence in the ongoing edition.

The existing guidelines allow the match referee to fine the captain Rs 12 lakh for the first instance of slow overrate. If found guilty of the offence, the captain’s fine will get doubled to Rs 24 lakh and the playing XI members will be playing 25 per cent of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh – whichever is fewer.
The third slow overrate offence will make the captain pay Rs 30 lakh and will be required to serve a one-match suspension. The other teammates will be charged 50 per cent of the match fee or Rs 12 lakh – whichever is fewer.
Prior to Kohli, MS Dhoni, Eoin Morgan and Rohit Sharma have been penalized for maintaining a slow overrate and were fined Rs 12 lakh.

On the match’s front, RCB received a serious hammering by CSK as they lost the game 69 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the star performer as he scored 62 runs in just 28 balls, where he hit Harshal Patel for 37 runs in the final over of the innings. Jadeja returned to pick three crucial wickets with the ball as well, which includes prized scalps of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. He also scored a direct hit against Daniel Christian to run him out. This win helped CSK leapfrog RCB to go top of the points table.
