Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith gave a good start to DC but Dhawan perished after scoring 24 runs. Shreyas Iyer got out for 1. Rishabh Pant got combined with Smith but the scoring rate wasn’t healthy. Lockie Ferguson clean bowled Smith for 39 in 34 balls that triggered a collapse as DC went from 77/2 to 92/6.
Rishabh Pant, however, kept one end tight but couldn’t enforce his natural batting style. He got out after scoring 39 runs in 36 balls. DC huffed and puffed to 127/9 in 20 overs. Ferguson, Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer grabbed two wickets apiece.
In response, Kolkata Knight Riders enjoyed good shot-making from Shubhman Gill. Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi got out cheaply. Gill also followed them after scoring 30 runs that came in 33 balls. Then came a collapse for KKR as Eoin Morgan registered another failure with a silver duck.
Nitish Rana kept his cool and held one end tight. Sunil Narine played a crucial cameo of 21 runs in 10 balls where he hit one four and two sixes off Kagiso Rabada.

Huge result for #KKR . They have turned the heat on their mid-table challengers. It makes the #MIvsPK a virtual must-win game for the two teams

Sunil Narine tearing into Rabada has brought #KKR to the doorstep of win. If that happens, big pressure on #MI and #PBKS in the second match

Had the @IPL ended 5 days early Venkatesh Iyer would have been the most in demand celebrity to open pujas. Every major puja would have wanted the man. And Venkatesh is thy name! @KKRiders

Bad result for #MI #PBKS #RR & #SRH
Good result for #CSK & #RCB as it keeps DC on 16 points and improves their chances of a top-two finish. KKR have relatively easier fixtures left – SRH, RR and PBKS.
