The cancelled fifth Test match between India and England is now rescheduled to July 2022, confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday. This match will be played at Edgbaston from July 1 instead of Manchester, where it was originally scheduled.

The series will resume at 2-1 with India having the lead. They can’t lose the series and will retain the trophy even if they lose because they are the current trophy holders.

“Due to the complexities in the schedule, the fixture cannot be staged at Emirates Old Trafford owing to clashes with pre-planned events at the venue, which will leave insufficient time to prepare a Test pitch,” the ECB explained in a media release.

Manchester will now host the second Test against South Africa from August 25, 2022. This match was previously due to take place at Edgbaston.

As a result of the rescheduling, the T20I and the ODI series between England and India have also been pushed back by six days. The T20I series will begin instead on July 7 at Ageas Bowl while the ODI series will now start on July 12 at the Oval.

The fifth Test between India and England was scheduled to be played from September 10 in Manchester. But covid-19 cases inside the Indian camp put things in jeopardy. Despite Indian players returning a negative RT-PCR test, the game couldn’t go ahead and was cancelled after the agreement between the two boards.
