The ongoing tour to South Africa started on a harsh note for Team India as they lost the first Test in Cape Town by a margin of 72 runs. The woes seem to be increasing each passing day as now their premier wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha will not be taking any further part in the series.
In the recent press release, BCCI has stated that Dinesh Karthik will replace injured Saha, who suffered a tendon injury in his left hamstring on Thursday.
The press release read: “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for Wriddhiman Saha for the third and final Test against South Africa. He is set to join the team before the third Test.”
It further added, “Mr. Wriddhiman Saha suffered an upper left hamstring tendon injury during training on Thursday, January 11. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress.”
Wriddhiman was also replaced by Parthiv Patel in the second Test in Centurion in which India conceded the first innings lead of 28 runs and the Proteas are now 118 runs ahead in the second innings after the end of Day 3.
Team India needs to win the Centurion Test in order to keep their dream of winning a Test series in the rainbow nation alive. The Third and the final Test between India and South Africa will be played in Johannesburg and it will begin from 24th January 2018.
