Dilip Vengsarkar Offers Words Of Wisdom To Yashasvi Jaiswal After Debut Century

Former India cricketer and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar has reflected on the advice he gave to opener Yashasvi Jaiswal before the West Indies tour. Jaiswal, who once honed his skills at the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy, made an impressive start to his Test career with a well-constructed century (171 off 387 balls) in India’s dominant victory over the Windies in Dominica.

Dilip Vengsarkar emphasized the importance of seizing the opportunity and maintaining consistency in his advice to the young sensation before the tour. He urged Jaiswal not to let the opportunity slip away but to grab it firmly. Vengsarkar stressed that consistency matters at this level and advised Jaiswal to remain single-minded in his devotion, work hard, stay focused, and let things fall into place.

“I reminded him about the significance of the opportunity and told him that he shouldn’t let it go but grab it with both hands. I also told him to be consistent since at this level consistency matters. Single-minded devotion has to be there… Work hard and be focused and then things will fall into place,” Dilip Vengsarkar shared with the Telegraph.

Vengsarkar praised Jaiswal’s approach and determination to score big, highlighting his exemplary application and shot selection during his innings. He commended Jaiswal for not letting go of any scoring opportunity and avoiding loose shots. Vengsarkar applauded Jaiswal’s focus and performance on his debut.

“I’m happy that he has managed to establish himself at the first given opportunity. His application was exemplary, and the discipline and determination Jaiswal showed to perform will help him a long way in his career. The most important thing during his innings was that he never let go of an opportunity to score, and there weren’t any loose shots. Such has been his focus on debut that you have got to applaud,” Dilip Vengsarkar added.
