Michael Vaughan has made a bold prediction about Virat Kohli, saying that the star batter would score his 49th hundred before the final and his 50th one in the summit clash of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Kohli has been delivering exceptional performances in the tournament, leading India to a series of victories and helping them maintain an unbeaten streak. He is currently the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, with an average of 118 and a total of 354 runs scored in five matches.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Kohli and claimed that the star batter would end up scoring his 49th ODI hundred before the final and the 50th one in the summit clash to go past Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record.

Michael Vaughan explained, “Virat Kohli in the chase, there’s no one better. It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a 49th before the final, and his 50th in the final. It’s written in the stars. I actually put it on social media – great, great players always arrive in World Cups.”

He further added, “It defines their legacies. Look at the footballers, Lionel Messi had to win the World Cup for Argentina, and he did it. Virat has already won a World Cup but you just feel he’s going to drive the Indian team all the way.”

Vaughan then drew a parallel between Kohli and Lionel Messi and said that great players always step up when it comes to big occasions and feel the star batter will lead India all the way to the title. Vaughan also praised India’s overall performance in the tournament and said that it would be difficult for any team to stop them.

“I’d love to know how they (India) can be stopped. I can’t see at the minute. Yes, you can get early wickets. But the pitches aren’t going to do much. How are you going to get them 3-4 down quickly? Aussies were the closest to surprise them when they got 3 out early in Chennai, but I don’t see how anyone will get close to them,” said Michael Vaughan.

Kohli’s fans will be hoping that Vaughan’s prediction comes true and that he scores his 50th ODI hundred in the World Cup final, leading India to the title.
