Wriddhiman Saha, the seasoned Indian wicketkeeper, showered praise on the burgeoning talent of young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, describing his batting prowess as ‘outstanding.’ Jurel’s commendable performance, including a gritty 46 on Test debut in the third Test followed by scores of 90 and 39 in the fourth Test at Ranchi, earned him the Player of the Match award.

“I have never seen him (Jurel) in domestic cricket, even in Test matches I have seen in him highlights. But his batting is outstanding, he won the last Test for the team,” Wriddhiman Saha remarked.

However, opinions vary regarding Jurel’s potential and comparisons with the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni have emerged. While Sunil Gavaskar sees parallels between Jurel’s game awareness and Dhoni’s batting and wicket-keeping abilities, Sourav Ganguly offers a more cautious perspective.

“Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making,” Gavaskar commented. “Dhruv Jurel certainly has all the credentials to get to where MS Dhoni reached in his career,” added Kumble on Jio Cinema.

“Obviously, Jurel has talent but Dhoni is in a different league. It took him 15 years to be MS Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play,” Ganguly advised on RevSports.

Saha also expressed optimism about the future of Indian cricket, citing the team’s bench strength. He stressed the importance of the domestic circuit and highlighted the need for players to seize every opportunity, whether in red-ball or white-ball cricket.

“It is always good to see that your reserve bench is ready, whenever somebody is getting a chance,” he acknowledged. “Over that, some players are getting opportunities but don’t want to play, which they shouldn’t. Whenever you get a chance to play, you should play whether it is red ball or white ball,” Wriddhiman Saha emphasized.
