Imad Wasim’s uninspired fielding effort during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 clash between the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and the Barbados Royals left his teammates and commentators unimpressed. The moment occurred in the 14th over at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
Mohammad Amir bowled a short delivery, which Quinton de Kock skillfully ramped over the wicketkeeper’s head. Imad Wasim, positioned at deep third man, appeared to jog casually towards the ball. However, he couldn’t prevent it from reaching the boundary, allowing de Kock to add four runs to his tally.
Fans and players alike were taken aback by Wasim’s lack of urgency. Amir, clearly frustrated, showed his displeasure on the field. Although the Royals were already on track for a comfortable win, Wasim’s sluggish effort raised eyebrows and highlighted a lack of commitment that couldn’t be excused by the match situation.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Rovman Powell chose to field. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons struggled to 145/9 in their 20 overs, with 17-year-old Jewel Andrew top-scoring with a 35-ball 48. Obed McCoy was the standout bowler for Barbados, taking 3/31, while Maheesh Theekshana and Jason Holder chipped in with two wickets each.

In response, Barbados got off to a flying start as Quinton de Kock and Rahkeem Cornwall put together an 80-run partnership within seven overs. Cornwall’s entertaining 34 off 20 balls ended, but de Kock and Shamarh Brooks ensured there were no further hiccups.

Quinton De Kock finished unbeaten on 87 from 45 deliveries, smashing nine fours and five sixes, as Barbados cruised to victory with nine wickets in hand and 27 balls to spare. This defeat marked Antigua and Barbuda’s third consecutive loss. They’ll be eager to turn things around when they face Saint Lucia Kings on September 4, while Barbados Royals are set to take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 7.
