In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, India B wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been a standout performer, both in his crucial role behind the stumps and with his entertaining on-field banter. Pant’s astute suggestions and engaging interactions were pivotal in India B’s 76-run victory over India A in Bengaluru.

Pant’s tactical input was particularly evident in a crucial moment of the match. He advised India B pacer Navdeep Saini to deliver a bouncer to India A’s Akash Deep. This strategy proved to be a masterstroke. As Akash approached his half-century, the bouncer from Saini caused him to fumble.

Unaware of where the ball had gone, Akash stepped out of his crease, only to find the ball had been expertly fielded by Musheer Khan at short leg. Musheer swiftly threw the ball to the stumps, resulting in Akash being run out. This dismissal was a key factor in India B securing their victory, and the video of this moment has quickly gone viral on social media, showcasing Pant’s leadership and tactical acumen.

Pant’s influence extended beyond just his tactical advice. His ability to engage with players from both teams added a layer of humour to the game. His witty banter with India A players and his strategic insights demonstrated his dual role as both a leader and a team player.

Despite the loss, Akash Deep had a remarkable individual performance in the match. He finished with impressive figures of nine wickets (4/60 and 5/56) and contributed 54 runs with the bat. His second innings knock was particularly notable, as he smashed three boundaries and four sixes, scoring 43 runs off 42 balls. His efforts were commendable, especially given that he was the second-highest run-scorer for India A after KL Rahul’s 57.
