Deepak Chahar was one of the high-profile moves that came during the IPL 2022 mega auction to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was bought for a whopping ₹14 crores, but his entire tenure in the IPL was tainted with fitness issues as he was out for the entire 2022 season due to injury. He didn’t have a great run of seasons after that; rather, he could only play 10 and eight matches in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

A couple of injury-marred seasons resulted in CSK not retaining him. Chahar will be available in the IPL 2025 mega auction which is slated on November 24 and 25, in Jeddah. Despite everything he has been through recently, Chahar is eager to be back in CSK’s scheme of things.

Deepak Chahar thinks his skills – his ability to stifle runs in Powerplay – will be very useful. He feels that being able to keep the early stages of an innings in control will be in huge demand because teams have already begun consistently crossing 200 in matches.

Talking about CSK’s past commitment to him, Deepak Chahar said, “They went all out for me in the last auction and I am hopeful that they’ll bid for me again. I would love to wear the yellow jersey one more time. If not CSK then I will be happy if Rajasthan Royals consider me.”

A product of IPL debut for Rising Pune Super Giants in the year 2016, Chahar debuted for CSK through the 2018 auction. It is to be seen how long it takes him to continue his run of form in those 81 matches as he has reeled in 77 wickets. His crucial performances had come during CSK’s title-winning campaigns in 2018, 2021, and 2023. That spell of the Yellow Troop has only elevated him to become one of the sought-after assets in IPL and awaits to regain that status at the next auction.
