Four People Arrested For Betting In Nidahas Trophy 2018

The Nidahas Trophy 2018 was a three-nation T20I series between India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka and it was played for celebrating the 70th year of Independence of the Islanders in Colombo. In the backdrop of Team India’s Nidahas Trophy breathtaking win in the final, four persons allegedly involved in organized cricket betting, including the T20I tri-series in Sri Lanka, were arrested in Hyderabad.

Sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone Team, Hyderabad, along with local police invaded separate premises under the Abids and Kulsumpura police stations on Sunday, a police release said.

Betting activity, including in connection with the T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka, was allegedly going on there, it said. According to the release, the people were caught with ₹7.72 lakh, two TV sets, two set-top boxes, 10 cell phones and one calculator.

Bangladesh gave a tough fight to India in all three matches and almost clinched the title as well. But, it was the heroic performance of the Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh did a Javed Miandad with a last-ball six to propel India to a four-wicket win over Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy final at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on Sunday.

The Nidahas Trophy 2018 turned out to be one of the most interesting T20I series played in recent times with three of out seven matches being thrillers. The Indians went into the tournament without some of their senior players. The Sri Lankans playing at home had a point to prove with a fresh-look team whereas Bangladesh wanted a multi-nation Trophy for themselves.

In batting terms, Kusal Perera was the highest run-scorer in the series with 204 runs in four innings with an excellent strike-rate of 158.13. He went past the 50-run mark three times out of four tries. In the bowling terms, Washington Sundar picked 8 wickets in the series is the joint highest with Yuzvendra Chahal with a lowly economy of 5.7. Sundar’s best spell came in the final when he took 3/18 against Bangladesh.
