Faf du Plessis, the former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), bid an emotional farewell to the franchise with a heartfelt message on Instagram. After three memorable seasons, Du Plessis expressed his deep gratitude to his teammates, the fans, and the management, reflecting on the incredible journey he had with the team.
Despite his pivotal role in RCB’s performances, the franchise did not retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, nor did they exercise their Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction.

In his Instagram post, the 40-year-old acknowledged how special his time with RCB had been: “As my chapter closes with RCB, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey this has been. When I joined three years ago, I had no idea how this journey would unfold. But I fell in love with the city of Bengaluru and the amazing people of RCB. This place and its people have become a part of who I am, and I’ll carry these memories and the connections I’ve built with me forever. Thank you for making these three years so special.”

Faf du Plessis went on to share his appreciation for playing at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, describing it as one of the most electrifying experiences of his career. “The energy, the passion, and the support from the fans make it truly one of a kind. Every time I stepped onto that field, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical,” he added, highlighting the unique bond between RCB and its loyal supporters.
As he bid farewell, Du Plessis thanked everyone who had been a part of his journey with the franchise, including fans, teammates, coaches, and the owners. “It’s been an honor to be a part of this journey with you. Much love,” he concluded.

Du Plessis, who had set his base price at Rs 2 crore, was bought by Delhi Capitals during the auction. His time at RCB was marked by significant achievements, including leading the team to the playoffs in IPL 2024. He also impressed with the bat, scoring 438 runs in the previous season and over 700 runs in IPL 2023. England’s Phil Salt is now expected to take over the opening slot for RCB, partnering with Virat Kohli.
