The Indian cricket team has produced countless heroes, but few have left as indelible a mark as former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Over a career spanning 402 international matches, Yuvraj scored an impressive 11,778 runs and claimed 148 wickets. Renowned for his match-winning performances, he was a game-changer across all formats of the sport.
Yuvraj’s cricketing journey is as inspiring off the field as it is on it. His battle with cancer, coupled with his triumphant return to the game, stands as a testament to his resilience and indomitable spirit. During the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Yuvraj delivered a dream performance that solidified his legacy.
Notably, he first exhibited symptoms of cancer during a group-stage match against the West Indies, where he not only scored a century but also picked up two crucial wickets. Despite these challenges, he powered through, becoming the tournament’s Player of the Series. Reflecting on his son’s bravery, Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, recently shared his thoughts on Unfiltered by Samdish.

“For our country, if Yuvraj Singh had died from cancer while winning India the World Cup, I would have been a proud father. I still am very proud of him. I told him over the phone, ‘Don’t worry, you won’t die. Win this World Cup for India,’” Yograj Singh said. He also claimed, with characteristic candor, that “I was a much better batsman than Yuvraj,” despite his own modest ODI average of 0.50.
The 2011 World Cup remains a defining chapter in Yuvraj’s career. With 362 runs in nine matches, including four half-centuries and a century, he averaged a remarkable 90.50. His match-winning knock in the quarter-final against Australia is etched in cricketing folklore.

Yuvraj Singh’s story is one of extraordinary talent, unyielding determination, and a legacy that continues to inspire generations of cricketers.
