The game of T20 can be a great leveler. At the beginning of the tournament, RPS stuttered while SRH cruised. At one point, SRH topped the table and RPS languished at the bottom. Now, RPS, having already qualified into the playoffs, are one of the top two, bettered only by Mumbai Indians, easily the best Team of the tournament so far. Meanwhile, SRH have slipped to number four and need to win at least one of their remaining two games to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
For the uninitiated, Pune’s campaign hasn’t been as buttery smooth as one would feel looking at their current form. Right after their first game, owner Sanjiv Goenka’s brother Harsh Goenka stirred up a major controversy by his “King of the Jungle Tweet”. A few games later, Smith hasn’t had as much impact. MSD, too, hasn’t had a great tournament but has played three game-changing knocks. Today, when Pune needed to post a competitive total on a challenging track, MSD found his touch and made a magical 31 off 21. Numbers can’t explain how important the knock was!
Later, Stokes took picked two important wickets in a single over, after which Unadkat picked up a hat-trick when SRH needed 13 off the last over, conceding no run. RPS, thus, managed to beat the SRH by 12 runs and are already into the playoffs.
