It may have come too late to rescue Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) campaign in IPL 2025, but Rishabh Pant’s thunderous return to form on Tuesday (May 27) was a reminder of the class he brings to the game. The LSG skipper, who had endured a torrid season with the bat, finally silenced his critics with a majestic unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Pant’s season had been one of constant struggle. He began with a duck against Delhi Capitals and followed it with a painstaking 15 off 15 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The lean patch continued with scores of 2, 2, 21, 63, 3, 0, 4, 18, 7, and an unbeaten 16. Naturally, questions were raised about his form and leadership, with fans and pundits alike questioning his place in the playing XI.
As LSG slumped out of playoff contention—losing five of their last six matches after a promising start—it was evident Pant’s poor run had hurt the team’s momentum.

However, with the pressure finally off, Pant came out firing. Promoted to No. 3 in the batting order once again, he delivered in emphatic style. Smashing 118 not out off just 61 balls, Pant’s innings was laced with 11 boundaries and 8 sixes. It was his second IPL century and his first since 2018—a knock that not only reignited belief in his batting but also showed a glimpse of the Pant that fans have long admired.
After an early setback with Matthew Breetzke falling in the third over, Pant and Mitchell Marsh stitched together a brilliant 152-run stand. Marsh played the aggressor initially, scoring a rapid 67 off 37, before falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 16th over. But Pant took over, reaching his fifty in 29 balls and completing his century in just 54.

Though LSG’s playoff hopes are over, Pant’s knock was a silver lining—and the fans responded with admiration and relief. His fiery innings may have come late, but it served as a powerful statement from a player rediscovering his rhythm.

At least we get our vice captain heading to England in a happy space. This hundred should shed a lot of the mental baggage of this IPL season. Perhaps should’ve played at number three a lot more more this season..But good to see @RishabhPant17 smiling and celebrating! #LSGvsRCB

Never write him off!
Look at the happiness on his face and the way he celebrated, shows what it means to him. Felt like guy realised who he’s and what he’s capable of.
