Mohammed Siraj’s fiery performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has propelled him to a career-best No. 15 in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings. The 30-year-old fast bowler climbed 12 spots after being named Player of the Match in India’s thrilling win at The Oval, where his nine-wicket haul helped level the series 2-2.

This is Mohammed Siraj’s first entry into the top 15, eclipsing his previous best ranking of No. 16, achieved during the South Africa tour in January 2024. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah—rested for the fifth Test—Siraj led India’s pace attack with poise and aggression, dismantling the English batting order with a sensational five-for in the second innings.

Over the five-Test series, Mohammed Siraj was India’s standout bowler, finishing with a tournament-leading 23 wickets from 185.2 overs—more than any other bowler in the series. His relentless energy and ability to strike at crucial moments were pivotal for Shubman Gill’s side.

The crowning moment came on the final morning of the series when Siraj cleaned up Gus Atkinson with a toe-crushing yorker as England edged within seven runs of victory. He bowled a superb 4.1-over spell under immense pressure, helping India clinch a win that will be remembered for years.

Mohammed Siraj now joins Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC top 10 rankings, marking a significant milestone for Indian fast bowling. Bumrah remains the world’s top-ranked Test bowler with 889 points, holding a 38-point lead over South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, who starred in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.

India’s bowling depth also received a boost from Prasidh Krishna. The Karnataka seamer jumped 25 places to No. 59 in the rankings after claiming eight wickets in the final Test. While Krishna occasionally struggled with consistency, his knack for breaking partnerships proved crucial. He finished the series with 14 wickets in just three matches.

Across the aisle, England pacers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue made career-best leaps in the ICC charts following their Oval performances. Atkinson entered the top 10 with his eight-wicket haul, now tied for 10th alongside Mitchell Starc with 766 points. Tongue, meanwhile, surged 14 spots to No. 46.

In the batting rankings, Yashasvi Jaiswal re-entered the top five courtesy of his match-winning century in the second innings at The Oval. Rishabh Pant maintained his position at No. 8 after consistent contributions throughout the series.

However, captain Shubman Gill slipped four places to No. 13 following a disappointing outing in the series finale. With Mohammed Siraj rising, Bumrah dominant, and Jaiswal continuing to impress, India’s red-ball future looks firmly in safe hands as the new ICC World Test Championship cycle begins.
