The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa in connection with its ongoing probe into alleged illegal online betting platforms. According to sources, the two ex-players have been asked to record their statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Robin Uthappa, 39, who retired from professional cricket in 2022, has been directed to appear before the ED on September 22. Uthappa had earlier featured in promotional videos for 1xBet, a betting application currently under the scanner for suspected violations of Indian law. A day later, on September 23, former World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has also been called in for questioning.

This development is part of a wider crackdown, as several cricketers and film stars have been summoned for endorsing betting apps under investigation. Just last week, the ED questioned former India stars Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in the same case. Dhawan, in particular, was reportedly grilled for over eight hours about his association with the platform.

The probe has extended beyond cricket, with the ED recently summoning Bollywood actor Urvashi Rautela, former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty, and Bengali actor Ankush Hazra. Notably, Rautela has been serving as the Indian brand ambassador for 1xBet, which faces allegations of money laundering, tax evasion, and algorithm manipulation.

According to officials, the ED suspects these apps of cheating investors and the public of crores of rupees while avoiding significant tax liabilities. Investigators are closely tracking financial transactions linked to the platforms to uncover possible money laundering violations.
