Shreyas Iyer made a commanding statement as captain of India A in the first unofficial ODI against Australia A at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Walking in at No. 3, Iyer played a captain’s knock, smashing a fluent century off just 75 deliveries. His innings, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes, set the tone for India A’s dominance in the middle overs. He eventually fell in the 47th over, scoring 110 runs from 83 balls, but not before leaving his mark on the game.

Debutant opener Priyansh Arya and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh gave India A’s innings a flying start. The pair stitched together a sparkling 135-run partnership in 20.3 overs for the opening wicket. Arya, making his India A debut, grabbed the spotlight with a blistering 101 off just 84 balls, decorated with 11 boundaries and 5 sixes.

The Delhi-born left-hander, who represents Punjab Kings in the IPL, looked composed yet fearless, completing his century in 82 deliveries. His innings ended when Tanveer Sangha induced a miscue, with Cooper Connolly completing the catch in the 26th over.

His knock ensured that India A made full use of the fielding restrictions and carried momentum into the middle phase.

Once the openers departed, Iyer took charge. First, he added 40 runs with Arya for the second wicket, and then consolidated with Riyan Parag in a blistering 132-run stand for the third wicket. Parag, batting at No. 4, showcased his growing maturity and attacking flair, smashing 5 fours and 5 sixes in his quickfire 42-ball 61. The Assam all-rounder kept the scoreboard ticking and matched Iyer’s intensity shot for shot.
