Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has thrown his full support behind senior pros Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, insisting that both should continue playing till the 2027 ODI World Cup. His remarks come after the duo’s stellar performances in the third ODI against Australia, where Rohit smashed his 33rd ODI century and Kohli roared back to form with an unbeaten 74, guiding India to a commanding nine-wicket victory.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former India captain and ex-chief selector rubbished any talk about age being a concern for either player.
“Ro-Ko set for 2027! Rohit, in my opinion, has to play the 2027 World Cup surely. Don’t bring the age factor. Stop saying ‘he’s brushing 40.’ He’s fit, fielding well, taking slip catches cleanly, and scoring runs consistently. What more do you need? The way he batted in Sydney reminded me of his 2019 World Cup form — calm, composed, and classy,” Kris Srikkanth said.

Turning his attention to Kohli, the 65-year-old heaped praise on the star batter’s unmatched fitness and commitment. “Virat Kohli can play until he’s 45, given the way he looks after himself. He’s as fit as a 25-year-old,” he remarked.

Kris Srikkanth also urged the BCCI and selectors to back the two veterans unconditionally rather than creating uncertainty about their future.
“Don’t spook them. Don’t create fear. Let them focus on their cricket. The selectors should tell them — ‘You are vital for the team, and we’ll build around you. Just stay fit and ready.’ That’s the kind of message they deserve,” he said.

He concluded by stressing that if he were still a selector, he would personally assure both players of their place in India’s 2027 plans. “If I was the chairman today, I’d go straight to them and say — ‘Just be fit for the 2027 World Cup and bring the trophy home,’” he added.
