Washington Sundar’s return to the Indian squad has come as a major boost for the Men in Blue as they gear up for their Group A clash against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on February 12. The left-arm spinning all-rounder has rejoined the 15-member squad after completing his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, following a lower-rib injury that had kept him sidelined for several weeks.

Sundar wasted no time settling back into the team environment and was seen taking part in an intense training session on Tuesday evening. The session included extended spells in the nets, batting practice and sharp fielding drills, as India fine-tuned their preparations after starting their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a win over the USA.
“It’s always nice to be over here with the boys and training,” Washington Sundar said in a video shared by BCCI.tv. “It was quite an intense session, and we ticked all the boxes. We did a very good fielding session, and obviously I got to bowl a lot.”

The Tamil Nadu cricketer also spoke about how positive the environment within the camp has been following India’s opening victory.
“The atmosphere is amazing,” Washington Sundar added. “The last three weeks were really good in terms of how I prepared and how much work I’ve put in myself to come here and be really ready for the tournament.”

Sundar missed the recent series against New Zealand due to acute discomfort in his lower ribs. The BCCI medical team monitored his recovery closely in Bengaluru, ensuring he regained full fitness before rejoining the national setup for the marquee ICC event. With the demanding World Cup schedule, India will be keen to manage his workload carefully while making the most of his all-round skill set.

While Sundar’s return strengthens India’s options, the team has also been hit by a fresh fitness concern. Young opener Abhishek Sharma has reportedly been admitted to a private hospital in New Delhi due to a stomach infection and is likely to miss the Namibia match. His absence could open the door for a reshuffle in the playing XI.
As India look to maintain momentum in the group stage, Sundar’s availability adds depth and balance to the side at a crucial stage of the tournament.
