Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has come out strongly in support of MS Dhoni ahead of IPL 2026, dismissing calls for the legendary wicketkeeper-batter to retire. With speculation growing around Dhoni’s future, Yograj’s comments have added a fresh perspective to the ongoing debate. Dhoni, one of the oldest players in the league, remains part of the Chennai Super Kings setup for IPL 2026.

Despite the arrival of Sanju Samson through a high-profile trade, the veteran is still expected to play a key role in the squad, both on and off the field. Many experts believed IPL 2026 could mark Dhoni’s final season, especially with CSK preparing for the future. However, Yograj firmly disagrees, insisting that age should not dictate a player’s career, particularly when fitness and performance remain intact.

“I admire him. MS Dhoni should play for another 10 years. Because he has proved his fitness. The guy has discipline; the guy has dedication,” Yograj Singh said. He also questioned the growing noise around Dhoni’s retirement. “The way he is playing, why not? Who the hell are people to tell him to retire? No. As far as cricket is concerned, hats off to him,” he added.

Dhoni’s role, however, has evolved within the team. With Ruturaj Gaikwad now leading CSK, the former captain continues to serve as a mentor, guiding the next generation while contributing at crucial stages of the game.

The 2025 season was a challenging one for CSK, as they finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history. Despite Dhoni stepping back into the captaincy midway due to injuries, the team struggled to find consistency. As IPL 2026 begins, all eyes will once again be on Dhoni — not just for his performances, but for how long he chooses to continue. If Yograj Singh’s words are anything to go by, the legendary cricketer may still have plenty left to offer.
